However, she soon learns that the original guide, Professor Edison, has been replaced by Finbar O'Neill. "Rosanna eyed him up and down with more than a flicker of interest." So begins this novel with all the trappings of a romantic thriller: exotic location, past lives coinciding with the present, sacrificial rituals, and lovers reuniting after a 1000-year separation. Rosanna discovers (with the help of an evil hypnotist) that in a previous life she was a pharaoh's daughter. At that time, she had refused to marry her father and bear his child to keep the bloodline pure, and now, the pharaoh's descendants have come up with a sinister plot to impregnate her in order to fulfill her ancient destiny. Despite this book's promising premise, the story line meanders in the beginning and takes a while to congeal. Also, action sequences are somewhat bland and anticlimactic, which is problematic in such a plot-driven novel.-Laura Glaser, Euless Junior High School, TX Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information, Inc.
