Set at the end of the 19th century in a town called Yellow Sky, the story concerns the marshal, Jack Potter, and his unnamed bride and the effect their marriage has on the town. The drunken, belligerent Scratchy Wilson, a cowboy who represents the Old West, tries to effect a showdown with Jack, his nemesis.
