About Book

From AudioFile
This sequel to R.L. Stevenson's KIDNAPPED takes David Balfour further into intrigue and danger as he seeks to solve the Appin murder and absolve himself and his friend, Alan Breck. Frederick Davidson delivers the text of this nineteenth-century novel with a thoroughly convincing variety of Scottish brogues and English accents. The convoluted syntax and florid literary style of the time, as well as numerous unfamiliar Scottish terms, can make the story difficult for the ear to follow. The authenticity of the reading intensifies these elements, but the stout-hearted listener can find enjoyment in the challenge while experiencing a Romance novel by this beloved adventure author. Download Description
Written in 1893, Catriona is the sequel to the highland adventure Kidnapped. Again it follows the young David Balfour, and picks up from the last novel with David trying to secure safe passage to France for his companion Alan Breck Stewart, and to clear both their names of the murder of Colin Campbell of Glenure the 'Red Fox'. The political complexities surrounding the murder of the Red Fox become very clear to David after he speaks with the advocate Prestongrange, in an atmospheric and evocatively described old Edinburgh. His life is in danger again and he knows not who to trust for fear of the implications for himself and others, apart from Catriona, the daughter of James of the Glens, whom he falls for at first sight. Part Adventure, part romance Catriona keeps you gripped in a tale that you won't want to end, and portrays a wonderful image of how old Edinburgh and the surrounding area must have looked in the 1750's.
