Upton Sinclair is the Pulitzer Prize winning author of Dragon's Teeth. His best known work is The Jungle, a novel about the abhorrent practices of the meat packing industry at the time.

When Allan Montague arrives in New York, he is swept into the lifestyle of the fashionable. They know him through his father who was a General in the war. The longer he stays in New York, the more he realizes that there is a huge disparity between the classes. When an injustice befalls the poor, Allan is the first to fight for what is right. But as he continues his lawsuit, he begins to realize that the very people he's fighting with are the very people who rule New York. He must be wily and careful if he is to survive this pursuit of justice.

They had the room; and likewise they had all the trappings of snobbery--Montague took that fact in at a glance. There were knee-breeches and scarlet facings and gold braid--marble balconies and fireplaces and fountains--French masters and real Flemish tapestry. The staircase of their palace was a winding one, and there was a white velvet carpet which had been specially woven for it, and had to be changed frequently; at the top of it was a white cashmere rug which had a pedigree of six centuries--and so on.

About the Author
Upton Sinclair (1878-1968) was a prolific American novelist, essayist, playwright, short story writer, and juvenile book writer, whose works reflected the social problems of 19th Century industry. His two great boyhood heroes were Jesus Christ and Percy Bysshe Shelley.

His novel Dragon's Teeth (1942) on the rise of Nazism won him the Pulitzer Prize. By the time Upton Sinclair died in November, 1968, he had published more than ninety books.
