About Book

From Library Journal
Lowenthal, the last surviving member of the Frankfurt School, is best known for his contributions to the sociology of literature, particularly his critique of popular culture. This work, eight interviews with Lowenthal and four essays by him, is addressed to specialists but is most readable and includes reminiscences and observations of interest to general readers, e.g., Lowenthal's thought-provoking reflections on the fate of the left in the contemporary United States and Germany. A bibliography would have enhanced this work's value to scholars. Recommended for most academic collections in social sciences and humanities. Brent A. Nelson, Univ. of Arkansas at Little Rock Lib.
