Now more than ever, out country needs to restore the values of our Founding Fathers; I can think of no better way to encourage such restoration than by providing all Members of Congress with the "Jefferson Bible."
Mark Beliles President, The Providence Foundation
Jefferson's supreme respect for the teachings of Jesus induced him not only to compile a digest of His words, but also to read the sacred collection every night. Jefferson's study began while holding the highest office in the land, and therefore is a worthy example for anyone to emulate, no matter how busy they are with politics or business.
Thomas Jefferson believed that the pure-principled teachings of Jesus should have been separated from the dogma and abuse of organized religion of the day. This led him to recast, by cutting and pasting from the gospels, a new narrative of the life and teachings of Jesus, where, according to Jefferson, "there will be found remaining the most sublime and benevolent code of morals which has ever been offered to man."

From the Publisher
Akashic Books presents a thought-provoking series of early writings from United States Presidents, starting this season with George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson, and moving chronologically forward. Each slim book offers an introduction and additional commentary by a groundbreaking contemporary writer. This series is unlike any other Presidential commentaries in print, and is characterized by a critical viewpoint that will provide a counterpoint to the more staid analyses that have traditionally accompanied Presidential writings.
