About the Author
John Ernest is Associate Professor of English, Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of English, and Coordinator of African American Studies at the University of New Hampshire. He received the Outstanding Assistant Professor Award in 1997 and the UNH Diversity Support Coalition's Positive Change Award in 1998. He was Gustafson Faculty Fellow in 1997. He is the author of "Resistance and Reformation in Nineteenth-Century African-American Literature: Brown, Wilson, Jacobs, Delany, Douglas and Harper" (Univ.
